Founding Member Rebekah Levin Details Her Five Week Journey in Palestine/Israel Beginning Oct 7, 2024
Rebekah arrived in Tel Aviv on October 7, 2023, unaware of the brutal events unfolding that very day in Palestine/Israel. Staying in the country over the next five weeks, Rebekah shares her first-hand experiences traveling in the West Bank and Israel, through the lens of her long personal history of activism and the challenges faced by both Palestinians and Israelis.
Rebekah emphasizes the need for a political solution based on justice, respect for human rights, and the need for an immediate ceasefire. Her lecture touches on the historical context of the longstanding conflict, the role of settlers and the Israeli army, the plight of Palestinian shepherding communities, and the importance of advocacy and education.
This recorded lecture was given January 28, 2024 at the United Church of Christ in Oak Park, Illinois.
UPDATE: On January 30, 2024, Rabbi Arik Asherman, whom Rebekah describes in her presentation as a leader in the protective presence activism, was indeed indicted on charges. We still know these charges to be false.
